Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Comfort in the Renovated Victorian Home of J.B. and Margaret Miller
This Victorian-style residence located in Larchmont, New York, was built in 1888 and is now the home of Emmy Award-winning producer J.B. Owned by J.B. Miller and his wife Margaret Miller. This renovation was led by interior designer Crystal Sinclair, who, while preserving the elegant structure of the original building, infused the space with a contemporary sense of simplicity and fluidity. Photographer William Jess Laird and stylist Mariana Marcki-Matos captured the new character of this residence with highly narrative lenses.

Sinclair drew inspiration from the juxtaposes of classical brocade and Camaleonda-style sofas and established the core tone of the design in the dialogue between the "old world and the new world". This concept is not only reflected in the integration of forms, but also in the balance of the owners' lifestyle - the Millers have two young daughters, and the rhythm of work and family requires the space to be both elegant and practical in terms of function and atmosphere.

The residence, covering an area of over 6,300 square feet, includes five main public areas, four bathrooms and five bedrooms. While retaining the high proportions and classical details, the designer used contemporary furniture and materials to reduce the sense of complexity, making the overall design not only continue the historical spirit of the building but also possess the lightness and comfort of modern living. She particularly incorporated Asian elements in response to the homeowner's love for Eastern aesthetics. For example, on the walls of the dining room, Sinclair collaborated with Chinoiserie Decor to customize floral-patterned wallpaper, combining the poetry of traditional murals with modern vocabulary.

The selection of furniture and artworks presents an overlap of multiple eras - the cream-colored wool velvet Soriana sofa designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in the living room, the Alberto dining table by Carlo Donati in the dining room, and the B& hanging by Mario Bellini; The 18th-century brocade tapestry behind the Camaleonda sofa designed by B Italia jointly creates a dialogue between time and material. Zellige tiles, steel, glass, velvet and marble and other materials are widely used in the space, combined with neutral tones and soft blue-gray accents, creating a restrained yet layered visual rhythm.

Sinclair also pays attention to daily sustainability and the safety of home use. All furniture is made of rounded corners and wear-resistant fabrics. After nearly a year of renovation, this residence that blends classic and modern elements has regained its vitality and become the core place for the Miller family to live and socialize.

In the renovated Victorian home of J.B. and Margaret Miller, where timeless elegance meets modern comfort, every detail speaks to the harmony of old-world charm and contemporary living.
