Park City Ski Retreat Blending Modern Design with Mountain Grandeur
This private ski residence located in Park City, Utah, USA, breaks the common stereotypes of traditional mountain architecture. This project was designed by Senalee Kapelevich, an interior designer from San Francisco. The overall atmosphere is warm and tactile, yet retains a distinct contemporary character. The building was jointly completed by architect Jack Thomas and MCC Homes. It is located on the mountainside of the Deer Valley ski resort. Residents can directly slide into the ski slopes through the back door. Almost every room offers a panoramic view of the mountains, which can be said to have a unique geographical location.

In terms of interior design, Capelevich broke away from the conventional ski cottages such as antler hangings, cowhleather carpets and heavy stone fireplaces, and instead adopted materials and shapes that are more in line with modern aesthetics In response to the lifestyle and visual preferences of the family of five, Margaret Kobrentz and Jeff Miller, who came from California. As the designer put it, "They hope this space is both sturdy and durable, yet retains a sense of design, suitable for daily intimate family life, and can easily accommodate a large number of guests." She found a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.

Due to the extensive use of circular glass Windows in the building, there is limited space left on the interior walls, and the arrangement of furniture is thus full of challenges. In response to this, the designer ingeniously introduced suspended furniture and window-hugging bed designs, creating a light and transparent spatial sense while maintaining functionality. It is worth mentioning that this is also the first time that SVK Interior Design has carried out projects outside California. With the help of remote tools such as Zoom and FaceTime, the design team efficiently completed collaboration at each stage, while Kapelevich himself only conducted on-site visits every two to three months.

There are no shortage of exquisite designs in the space. The chandelier of Lindsey Adelman hangs down from the four-story stairwell and instantly becomes the visual focus. The re-arranged glass wine room is seamlessly connected to the ski lounge, replacing the previous closed structure and significantly enhancing the sense of openness. The kitchen and fireplace area are equipped with custom-made brass range hoods from the ChicChicago Mitchel & Mitchel team, providing a strong visual support for the overall texture. In terms of furniture selection, from Pierre Yovanovitch's Stella coffee table to items from brands such as Christophe Delcourt and Nickey Kehoe, they all echo the outdoor snow scene. Capelevich described them as "artworks with the texture of ceramic sculptures", and every detail is filled with carefully considered care.

Nestled in the mountains of Park City, Utah, this private ski residence redefines traditional mountain architecture with its contemporary character and warm, tactile atmosphere. The interior design by Senalee Kapelevich breaks away from conventional ski cottage aesthetics, embracing modern materials and shapes that reflect the family's lifestyle and visual preferences.
