West Village Apartments | Harmonious Fusion of Unique Design and Home Comfort
In the West Village of New York City, there is an apartment with a unique charm. It is housed in a 12-story tower built in 1896 and meticulously crafted by designer Sandra Weingort.
Ms. Weingott described her first encounter with the city's apartment as an instant admiration. However, the original apartment had a number of problems, such as a lack of natural light, some dim and humorless paint and furniture choices, and "cold" lighting. Still, Weingert and her client embarked on a year-long renovation.
In the renovation process, getting the right lighting is one of the key issues. Weingert struggled to find and install architecturally significant lighting, overcoming numerous obstacles in the process. Her studio worked closely with Rockhill Construction to solve a number of problems such as beams.
One of the most striking features of the apartment is its view of downtown New York. Weingott draws heavily on these elements in his interior design. She chose materials such as terracotta brick, black steel and green bronzing, and added rusted metals to reflect New York's industrial history and unique language. The warm, rust-hued color palette and organically shaped furniture give each room a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
Although the choice of furniture is simple and timeless, the configuration of the corner apartment is full of challenges, as if playing Tetris. The restaurant's unusual asymmetrical geometry annoyed Mr. Weingott, and he eventually resolved it by customizing the tables.
In addition, an important and impressive collection of contemporary art provides the final touches to the apartment. Although Weingott has a deep knowledge and unique taste for collecting art and antique design, she also advises clients on emerging objects and furniture collections.
For Weingott, it was important to make sure there were no elements in the space that felt too precious or intimidating. It is through this careful attention to detail that this West Village apartment achieves the perfect balance between calm and masterful planning, becoming a home that feels intimate and relaxed, while also reflecting the true charm of New York.
