Casa Alegria's Fusion of History and Modern Living
Casa Alegria, located in the La Roqueta district of Valencia, is a masterpiece of design that spans time. The house, built in 1910, has taken on a new vitality with HER Arquitectura's ingenious transformation. Designer Ana Hernandez combines years of overseas experience with the cultural depth of her hometown to create a space that is both liveable and full of fun and sharing.
Casa Alegria was inspired by an interesting reflection: why limit the comfort and beauty of a vacation to a short journey? Ana Hernandez is committed to bringing the essence of holiday in Ibiza into everyday life, and this house is the embodiment of her philosophy. This home is not only a place for daily life, but also a space to welcome friends and share joy, like a boutique hotel forever waiting to return.
At the heart of HER Arquitectura's transformation lies the open design. By removing the closed kitchen wall and integrating the kitchen, living room and dining room, a space filled with light and interaction was created. The kitchen's sculptural granite island is the centerpiece of the home, symbolizing gathering, communion and warmth. The open design of the house removes the dark feel of the old rooms, so that every corner is surrounded by natural light.
Although the design of Casa Alegria is minimalist, every detail tells a story. Through the design of the space, the arch is not only a visual focus, but also injects life into the change of light and shadow. Granite is the theme throughout, from the kitchen island to the bathroom wash basin, to the steps separating the bedroom from the bathroom, there is a delicate sense of art.
In order to preserve the historical character of the house, the design team restored original structural elements such as wooden beams and ceramic decorations to create a dialogue with modern materials. A painting of a blue fireplace in the living room, a chair recycled from the owner's father's shop, and a jar of oil stored by his grandparents bring the house to life with objects of memory and emotion.
Although the aesthetic preference of the owners is simple and monochromatic, HER Arquitectura uses soft natural materials and emotional decorations to make the minimalist space not cold. The design of epoxy flooring instead of microcement is both practical and beautiful, and details such as linens, fleece blankets and books add to the temperature of the home. Every piece of furniture, every decoration tells a story, giving the space personality and level.
The design of the bedroom retains the traces of history, and the wooden beams and ceramic decoration give the space a unique rustic feel. The bathroom is a surprising area, where the extensive use of natural stone makes it an art space for everyday dialogue. The washbasin and the granite island are designed with the same material, reflecting the same aesthetic language.
Casa Alegria's name (meaning "House of joy") lives up to its name. It is a space designed for both daily life and meeting and communication. Designer Ana Hernandez successfully combines space, light and emotion to make everyone who enters say, "It's so nice to be here." This home is a dialogue between history and modernity, a balance between minimalism and richness, and an expression of the designer's passion for a better life. Casa Alegria has undoubtedly fulfilled its mission: a timeless home of light and joy.
