Belleview Reimagined A Mediterranean Home Reborn for Modern Family Life
Belleview is a minimalist residence located in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, Australia. The interior design was handled by Lawless & Meyerson, and the architectural renovation was completed by MHNDU Architects. This project rejuvenated a 20-year-old Mediterranean-style old house. The building enjoys an expansive view of Sydney Harbour. The owner insisted on preserving the original structure of the house and its connection with the landscape, while also completing a contemporary functional upgrade.

The spatial layout has been reorganized around the concept of family life. The first floor has been restructured around the relocated kitchen, preparation area and large library. The library is set as the social center of the family. The second floor plans a brand-new master bedroom suite and bedrooms. The polished gypsum staircase becomes the core visual node. The sculptural curved surfaces echo the Catalan modernism of the early 20th century. The perforated metal doors project dynamic geometric light and shadow onto the curved walls.

The design team adhered to the existing material characteristics of the site. The terrazzo and limestone were reinterpreted in warmer tones, uniformly covering the bathrooms, transitional spaces and the pool platform, creating a continuous tactile experience. The custom silver-dotted stone kitchen island has a thick and stable texture. The chocolate-colored herringbone wooden floor runs throughout the entire house, with the diagonal patterns accumulating a sense of time, and the color tone echoes the warm ochre color scheme of the Mediterranean region, reinforcing the core style of the project.

The entire renovation process aims to deeply optimize and enhance the value of the old house. The design removes outdated components and adds materials and forms that are in line with the site. The building retains the basic style of the Mediterranean region while optimizing lighting, circulation, and functional layout, allowing the historical texture to blend with modern living needs, thus creating a livable residence that combines local heritage with a comfortable experience.

Nestled within the sun-drenched, harbour-facing interiors of Belleview, where Lawless and Meyerson alongside MHNDU Architects breathed new life into a 20-year-old Mediterranean-style home on Bellevue Hill, the art of preserving heritage while embracing contemporary living finds its textile counterpart in domvitus's Caudry Block Print Floral Pillow Cover Cotton Rustic Farmhouse Decor. Just as this Sydney residence reinterprets terrazzo and limestone in warmer tones and pairs chocolate-colored herringbone wooden floors with Catalan modernism curves, the Caudry collection balances hand block printed botanical artistry with solid cotton simplicity—its reversible design echoing the project's dialogue between historical texture and modern functionality. Whether styled against polished gypsum sculptural surfaces or softening the custom silver-dotted stone kitchen island, these accents embody the same continuous tactile experience and warm ochre harmony that defines Belleview's core aesthetic, proving that true rustic farmhouse decor thrives where local heritage meets comfortable experience and Mediterranean warmth transcends geography to grace any space seeking timeless character and honest craftsmanship.
